Internet

Ka-Tel is both the ISP (Internet Service Provider) and domain registry for all of Kaldus. More information will be defined later in this page. As for the infrastructure, there are 4 service options. There is DSL (Digital Subscription Line) which uses copper line services. These will be replaced as expeditiously as possible to fiber optic, therefore replacing DSL with Fiber. There is Coaxial which was initially used for television, but can also provide for internet service. Since the stnadards of broadband can be met with coaxial, htere is not much of a need to replace the coaxial lines, but they will be with Fiber Optic. Needless to say, fiber optic is the standard for service. There is also cellular. Anywhere where LTE or 5G is served for the area, it can provide a solution for broadband. If there are any 3G networks or CDMA still around, they will be replaced with 5G service. This will support not only inernet but telephone as well. Ka-Tel is also the domain registry for all .ka domains. Obviously, some .ka domains will be reserved. for example, gov.ka is reserved for government, where as www.ka is one of Ka-Tel domains. Ka-Tel will reserve the right to reserve any proposed 3 letter domains for other options. WIth that in mind, a 3 letter domain can only be made by citizens of the country, and must have a review period. If the domain is accepted for the customer, then the customer must pay for the domain. 4+ letter domains do not have such restrictions, but non-citizens are charged a higher rate. All .ka domains must be secured domains. This means there must be an SSL certificate for that domain within 30 days of acquisition. The domain owner is required to provide for that SSL. This means if the domain was being purchased to offer sub-domains, then owner of the domain is required to support all sub-domains as well.

Internet Service

Internet services is considered as an essential utility, and must be affordable for the general public. With that said – there will be a number of packages with the cheapest one meeting that 10MBPS minimum bandwidth. Where DSL is the only option, then a cellular router will be offered if there is 4G+ services in that area. All customers will choose a user name, and setup a password to log in to their account. The user name can be any 4+ character ID, and can not be anything derogatory. In addition to providing internet service, Ka-Tel will also provide an email address (you@www.ka), and a website (https://you.www.ka). The prices are as follows:

  • Upto 10MBPS: Free
  • 50MBPS: $10KaD
  • 100MBPS: $25KaD
  • 500MBPS: $50KaD
  • 1GBPS: $100KaD
  • 2GBPS: $150KaD

DSL has a maximum of 5MBPS. Cellular has a limit of 100MBPS. Coaxial has a limit of 500MBPS. Fiber can go as high as 100GBPS with the right equiptment that does not exist yet.

Domain Services

Ka-Tel will also provide domain registrar services. Other than the sub-domains they provide for their internet customers, they do not offer hosting. However Ka-Tel can offer free forwarding of their domain, and 1 email address. The subscriber still must have a destination to forward to. As mentioned, .ka domains must have an SSL certificate attached to the domain and any sub-domains. Violation of this will revoke the domain, and possibly ban you from acquiring future .ka domains. Therefore if you want a .ka domain, you would definitely be wise to add SSL services immediately.

Reserved Domains

There are some 3 letter domains that are reserved by Ka-Tel for various reasons, These reasons are defined by Ka-Tel, and therefore not answerable to any entity wanting such 3 letter domain. They will simply have to pick an alternative. Only Kaldan citizens can acquire 3 letter domains, and such domains must go through a review process before being allowed to offer the domain. Prices

Prices for domain registration depends on whether you are a citizen or a non-citizen. Having a website will be considered as essential, but that is fulfilled already from having a subdomain under www.ka. Therefore, prices for domains do not have to meet the essential services policy. The prices are as follows:

  • 3 character: $500KaD, citizen only, review process
  • 4 characters: $50KaD non citizen. $35KaD citizen
  • 5+ characters: $35KaD non citizen. $25KaD citizen
